The Wash Day
As you may or may not have known, I’ve been practically rocking out with Havana Twists for going on almost a year. Honestly, I love those things and trust me, I will be getting them again as the months get a little colder here in New York. Probably in December like I did last year. Anyway, since I’ve had Havana Twists in for months I didn’t really have much to say on the blog. Last Monday I took out my twist after having them in for three months. Hurray! I didn’t beast in keep them in for five months this time. Progression.
Saturday night my plans got canceled so I decided to really clarify my hair after having let my hair rest for a few days after taking out the twists. Yea, that’s right.. I rocked a dirty high puff for a few days before finally deciding to wash my hair.
Sometimes I’m still the worse.
I plan on getting it cut this upcoming week so I’ll definitely be sharing that whole experience. This will be my first time getting my hair straightened and really cut after being natural for 2 years and change. Needless to say, I’m super excited. But we’ll get into later.
So here was this weekend’s Wash Day went:
A Detangled hair with purified water + EVCO and wide tooth comb before twisting hair into two strands. Let my hair rest for a few hours as I went about my business with my errands.
B Untwisted hair while finger combing out any knots or tangles before sectioning and twisting my hair into four big twist.
C Co-washed each section with Ouidad’s Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil which literally has to be one of my favorite cleansing products at the current moment. I would untwist each section, lather the cleansing oil on my hair and scalp before retwisting. I let this sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing out section by section.
D Decided to revisit the Doris New York MUD Mineral Pack Treatment having only used it once before. This treatment detoxifies, strengthens, invigorates and revitalizes the scalp. It works to strength and repair dry damaged hair while restoring the much needed body and lust to your hair. After having my hair in twists for three months my scalp was definitely in need of some TLC so I figured this would be a great to use. Applied it to the four sections of my hair, twisted each section and placed a conditioning cap on with a towel wrapped around it and let it sit for about an hour. Like the last time, I’m pleased with how refreshed my scalp and hair feels after using the treatment. Got my coils poppin’.
E Used my favorite Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner as a leave-in. Love the thick consistency for a leave-in as I feel it leaves my hair more moisturized and not to mention I love the smell.
F Two strand twisted my hair into 12 big twist (6 on each side) using Shea Moisture Enhanced Curling Smoothie and Elasta QP Olive Oil and Mango Butter Moisturizer. Let the twist air dry. Ever since I started using the EVOLVE Satin Pillowcase I haven’t used a satin bonnet or scarf.. and I love it.
Next Day Hair Afterthoughts:
First, let’s talk about how I still fail at cellphone mirror pics. I always cover my face. And yea, this was today’s hair in it’s shrunken, frizzy, in need of a trim glory. But anyway.. Like the first time I used the Doris New York MUD Mineral I was really happy with how fresh my hair and scalp felt. This really removed all the dirt and residue from my hair. The last time I had taken out my Havana Twists, I had to wash my hair several times as I was still finding dirt in my hair. Granted, I kinda rushed all my washes.. that’s neither here nor there. The point is.. if I would have used the Doris New York MUD Mineral the first time I could have saved so much time. I also really like how when rinsing out the treatment it definitely made any knots or dirt that I did miss during my earlier wash come out rather easily. Totally impressed. Think this product may have just entered my staple product list. Rocking my hair in two strand twist for the rest of the week before I get my hair cut this Saturday at H2 Salon in Brooklyn. I’ll definitely keep you posted.
